Embryo donation at our IVF clinic in North Cyprus is a cost-effective solution for a number of infertility issues. Among the options available for individuals and couples seeking fertility treatment, embryo donation is an important option to consider. Donor eggs and sperm are obtained from young and healthy individuals who kindly donate their eggs/sperm to help couples overcome their fertility issues. With donor’s help, many euroCARE IVF patients can start or grow their families.

What is Embryo Donation in North Cyprus

Embryo donation in North Cyprus is a form of third-party assisted reproduction which involves using donor eggs and sperm to create embryos for implantation. These embryos are then transferred to the patient’s uterus to achieve a pregnancy. The birth mother and her partner (if any) are considered the legal parents of the child.

Double Donation Program

Double Donation is a special program at euroCARE IVF which combines two donation programs – egg and sperm donation. With embryo donation, fresh donor eggs and frozen donor sperm are used to create an embryo(s). This program is designed for heterosexual couples where both partners are diagnosed with infertility, same-sex female couples and single women who are unable to conceive using their own eggs due to infertility or age-related problems. The euroCARE IVF double donation program is supported by our partner, Cryos bank in Denmark, who provides quality sperm from anonymous donors.

When to Consider Embryo Donation in North Cyprus

Embryo donation is an ideal option for couples where both partners are affected by infertility or who are carriers of a genetic condition that can be passed onto the child. Women in their late 30s and many in their 40s might need a sperm donor especially if they have a low ovarian reserve and/or poor-quality eggs. Women with multiple failed IVF cycles or women with recurrent miscarriage might benefit from using donor eggs to help them get pregnant. Some women may experience fertility issues before the age of 40 due to early ovarian failure (early menopause) and the only treatment options available to them may be embryo donation. Donor eggs and sperm may also be used by same-sex female couples or single women who experience infertility for a number of reasons.

As to the male partner, there are a number of conditions which require the use of donor sperm including low sperm count or poor sperm motility. Suitable candidates for embryo donation in North Cyprus are also cancer patients, men who have been born without male reproductive organs, and men with autoimmune conditions which affect their reproductive system. Using donor sperm provides a very successful result for all of these patients.

Embryo Donation for Single Mothers

The leading fertility center in North Cyprus, euroCARE IVF, provides a variety of treatment options to single women who want to become mothers. Single women typically need donor sperm to conceive as part of IVF, but other than the need for a sperm donor, sometimes these women may also need donor eggs. The deciding factor for the use of donor eggs and sperm is the type and severity of the fertility issues the patient is facing.

If the female patient has a too low ovarian reserve, premature menopause or her tubes are blocked, she may need in vitro fertilization (IVF) with donor eggs and sperm. Our fertility specialist will determine each patient’s needs through consultation and fertility testing in order to suggest the best treatment plan tailored specifically to your needs.

Our clinic works with a reputable sperm bank in Europe to provide you with a suitable sperm donor. At the beginning of the procedure, you will get access to the donor database of the sperm bank our clinic partners with from which you can obtain good-quality donor sperm. With the euroCARE IVF egg donation program that has a large and diverse database of highly-qualified egg donors, we can help single women who need egg donors find a good match fast.

How Does Embryo Donation in North Cyprus Work

The Embryo Donation process involves multiple steps.

STAGE 1: CONSULTATION

The first step is to contact our euroCARE IVF patient coordinator who will provide guidance and support throughout the process. The coordinator will explain the embryo donation process and ensure that you fully understand your role and what’s involved in the process.

STAGE 2: FERTILITY TESTING

A range of fertility tests is carried out on both partners to help us determine the best treatment plan for you. This include:

  • Hormone blood tests to measure:
    • TSH (Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone)
    • Prolactin
  • Infectious disease testing including HIV and Hepatitis B and C tests
  • Ultrasound scan for uterine assessment and antral follicle count (egg supply)

At the beginning of the embryo donation process, you will need to fill out a medical form where you will provide details about the characteristics and qualities you desire in a donor. You will then be offered multiple profiles based on the data supplied in your form. A detailed profile of each donor including physical characteristics, education, occupation, and hobbies will be made available to you. All donors have been previously screened to ensure good health and suitability for the egg donation process. We usually invite donors with proven fertility who successfully contributed to the pregnancy of a couple before.

STAGE 3: EGG DONOR CYCLE

Our clinic will arrange the following steps:

  • Ovarian stimulation
  • Egg retrieval
  • ICSI fertilization
  • Embryo culture

STAGE 4: EMBRYO TRANSFER

Your patient coordinator will advise you regarding a medication regime to prepare your uterine lining for embryo transfer. You will start progesterone supplementation right after the egg retrieval. This is to make sure that your uterus is ready to accept the embryos.

Embryos are usually transferred on day 3 (cleavage-stage transfer) or day 5 (blastocyst transfer) after the egg retrieval. Before being transferred, embryos are assessed for quality and only the ones with the best prospects of developing into a successful pregnancy are selected. You will discuss the details of the embryo quality report with the euroCARE IVF doctor. Multiple factors including embryo quality and stage of development as well as a patient’s age will affect the doctor’s final decision as to the date of the transfer and the number of embryos to transfer.

STAGE 5: PREGNANCY TEST

Twelve days after the transfer, a pregnancy test is carried out to check if implantation was successful. Hormone support will continue into early pregnancy.

  • Pregnant

Your patient coordinator is available to offer help and guidance on next steps. You can start getting prenatal care at your local ob-gyn.

  • Not Pregnant

Support is available from your compassionate support team during this difficult time. You will have a consultation to discuss future options, including help to plan your next IVF cycle.

Finding an Egg Donor in Cyprus

All our donors are between 21 and 28 years old. In addition, all donors have undergone stringent screening tests to ensure that they are healthy and fit for donation. You will get a choice of multiple donors, carefully preselected by our support team based on the specifications provided in the medical form. If you decide that you want to use donor eggs for your IVF cycle, you can select an egg donor who is part of our in-house egg donor program. A detailed profile that includes physical traits, family history, education, hobbies, and personality of the donor will be made available to you.

The general egg donation requirements are:

  • Be between the ages of 21 and 28.
  • Have regular monthly periods.
  • Have no reproductive disorders.
  • Be physically and emotionally healthy.
  • Have a normal weight – BMI under 28.
  • Do not smoke or use drugs.
  • Be willing to undergo medical and psychological evaluation.
  • Be willing to take each step of the egg donation process.

Finding a Sperm Donor

If embryo donation has been recommended and all issues have been discussed with the fertility doctor, suitable donor sperm will be used for assisted reproductive purposes. The physical characteristics that the patient(s) look for in a sperm donor are recorded. The same physical attributes or qualities such as hair color, eye color, height, blood group, occupation, education, interests, and hobbies are used to choose a suitable donor.

The recipient(s) are not allowed to receive identifying information about the donor. The donor is also not allowed to receive any information about the identity of the recipient couple or the resulting child. The donor has no parental rights over the child/children born as a result of the donation.

Donors are physically healthy men aged between 21 and 34. All donors undergo rigorous screening before being accepted in our sperm donation program. The screening process involves fertility, genetic and infectious disease testing.

Genetic Screening

This involves a genetic disorders assessment and assessment of the candidate’s family history covering grandparents and other descendants. At this stage, we look for any heritable conditions that may be present in the family. All potential donors undergo karyotype testing. Some common heritable diseases include sickle cell disease, thalassemia, Tay Sachs, and cystic fibrosis.

Infectious Disease Testing

All donors are tested for Chlamydia, HIV-I and -II, HTLV-I, Hep B surface antigen (HBsAg), hepatitis C (HCV-Ab), syphilis, gonorrhea. The donor must be retested for infectious diseases every three months before his sample can be used for donation.  All sperm samples are quarantined for six months.

Embryo Donation vs Adoption

Embryo donation is not the same as embryo adoption. Although sometimes these two terms are used interchangeably, they have a different meaning. At euroCARE IVF, we only offer embryo donation which is a combination of two donation programs – egg and sperm donation.

  • What is Embryo Adoption

Embryo adoption is a form of third-party assisted reproduction which involves using leftover embryos created in a previous IVF cycle of another couple to help an infertile individual or couple conceive as part of IVF. It is basically the adoption of donated embryos that allows the adoptive mother to carry and give birth to a genetically unrelated child. With embryo adoption, the process begins nine months earlier by transferring a frozen embryo donated by a couple who has undergone in vitro fertilization.

  • How is Our Embryo Donation Program Different from Embryo Adoption

Embryo donation at euroCARE IVF is very different from the embryo adoption programs offered in many clinics around the world. With our embryo donation program, you can rest assured that the embryos that are used in your cycle are a product of donor eggs and sperm that come from donors that you’ve previously chosen with the help of our support team and that these are donated exclusively to you.

Egg Donation vs Embryo Donation: What’s the Difference?

The main difference between egg and embryo donation whether you need to use donor sperm or not. With egg donation, you will be provided with fresh unfertilized eggs which can be fertilized with your partner’s sperm in our specialized lab. Embryo donation, on the other hand, uses embryos that were created using donor eggs and sperm that are ready to be transferred to your uterus. Embryo donation may be the obvious choice for single women or couples where both partners struggle with infertility problems, and egg donation might work for those who cannot use their own eggs but have access to viable sperm for fertilization.

Embryo Donation Success Rates

For embryo donation using fresh eggs and donor sperm, success rates are over 70% for euroCARE IVF patients. Embryo donation is extremely successful because donor eggs and sperm are obtained from young, healthy donors who have successfully completed an extensive screening process and have satisfied all general and specific donation requirements. Moreover, egg donors who have positively contributed to the success of another couple in the past, are usually re-invited for another egg donor cycle.
